The STT has launched an investigation into Streltsov’s possible corruption in order to embezzle funds intended for Ukrainian war refugees

According to STT, the pre-trial investigation was started after examining the report of the mayor of the Šiauliai district municipality that money from the Chiunes Sugihara Foundation, intended to help Ukrainian war refugees integrate in Lithuania, may have been embezzled.

The report released by the service states that the managers of the fund had chosen to cooperate with the Šiauliai City Municipality, and had also chosen a public institution that would take care of organizing the provision of support. According to the contract between the municipality and the public institution, it was agreed to cooperate in providing a package of integration training services for refugees from Ukraine in the months of June-December last year.

According to the investigation, when submitting reports on the use of funds of a fund established in Japan, a representative of the aforementioned public institution possibly submitted a forged document with the signature of an employee of the municipal administration. While organizing the provision of training services, he may have entered into contracts with related persons in order to embezzle funds from the fund.

Streltsov were purchased from his wife and the spouse of a fellow party member. He told the delfi.lt portal that he doubts whether S. Streltsov and the institution he leads have organized as many lectures for Ukrainians as they committed to.

S. Streltsovas, who had to account for the used support both to the municipality and to the Japanese prof. I. Chiharu, submitted letters signed by different persons to both parties.

The letter to the municipality was signed by S. Strelcovas, a member of the council, the director of the institution “Tekansias Saulės tiltai”, and the letter to I. Chiharu by Violeta Murkienė, the head of the Accounting Department of Šiauliai District Municipality. However, there is no such employee in the municipality, delfi.lt reported.

Professor I. Chiharu himself expressed his doubts about the completed training for the Ukrainians. In a letter submitted to the municipality of Šiauliai district, he stated that when he asked S. Streltsov to provide in detail how the funds were used, the conservative avoided doing so.

S. Streltsov himself claimed to the portal that the professor did not express any doubts to him about the organized training and did not ask for detailed information about it.

The Ministry of Culture decided to apply to VTEK, as S. Streltsovas currently heads the Vilnius Gaon Jewish History Museum, which is subordinate to the Ministry.
