Belgium allocates financial assistance to support mine clearance in Azerbaijan
Belgium has allocated $250,000 to support mine clearance activities in Azerbaijan. This was written in social netwrk X by Gaya Mammadov, head of department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
“Mines are the main obstacle to the return of former IDPs to the liberated territories. This assistance is a symbol of human solidarity and a positive step in our bilateral relations,” he wrote.
On 4-5 July, a delegation led by Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) Vugar Suleymanov is on a working visit to Belgium.
The purpose of the visit is to inform the international community about the scale of the current mine problem in Azerbaijan and the humanitarian demining works carried out in the liberated territories.
According to the latest data, 363 people have been affected by mine explosions in the liberated territories since November 2020, 69 of whom have died.
Experts estimate that there are hundreds of thousands of unexploded mines in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
