Okuličius is wanted by the police – about life after the massacre in “Svainija” and why he fled to Spain

“The last name of Okuličius to wear in Panevėžys it was really quite a challenge – even though 27 years have passed since 1996, that story will somehow follow us for the rest of our lives,” admitted 41-year-old D. Okuličius.

He spoke about an exceptional evening that shook the whole of Lithuania – at that time, Panevėžys was not controlled by the local police, but by the actors of the criminal world, to whom almost all businessmen had to pay tribute, the bandits also demanded money from D. Okuličius’ father Rimantas Okuličius. On Christmas Eve, criminals came armed to the store “Svainija” managed by him – the businessman decided to resist them and, drawing a gun, shot four racketeers and injured four more.

“If it wasn’t for me, they would have shot me,” the businessman said.
