“I don’t plan to resign and give up everything with an easy hand, because I don’t think that one episode of an imperfect system, one mistake of mine (or a possible mistake) erases everything I’ve done and accomplished. In politics, as in any job, mistakes happen. I believe that I have done more good deeds than mistakes,” the politician wrote on his Facebook account on Friday evening.

“After the investigation by the Control and Audit Office, it will be clear where I made mistakes and then I will take the necessary decisions. It’s a shame that an irresponsible approach to the process of justifying expenses prevailed,” he noted.
Mr. Isoda emphasized that his only goal now is to regain people’s trust.

“I will continue to strive for transparency, efficiency, rationality and other standards, the same for myself!” (…) My main goal at the moment is to restore the shattered trust in me, despite this story,” he wrote.

ELTA reminds that, following the continuation of A. Tapin’s initiative “Skaidrinam”, an overview of office expenses of Marijampolė council members was published on Friday. It is indicated that the mayor of the municipality, Povilas Isoda, used both the official car and compensated for the fuel used for personal transport for almost 12 thousand. euros.

The investigation indicates that Mayor P. Isoda submitted checks in his reports that paid for both gasoline and diesel. Also, the politician poured fuel several times a day, at intervals of several minutes. In total in 2021 in January-September, the mayor paid for fuel with 13 different bank cards.

Altogether Mayor of Marijampole During the term of office, he was reimbursed 11,554 euros for fuel, although he also used a company car at the same time.

“For such an amount, the mayor, driving in an official car, could travel approximately 92,000 kilometers in his personal car,” the publication says.
