European Union suspends process of Georgia's integration

The European Union has suspended Georgia’s integration process. This was announced by the EU Ambassador to Georgia Pavel Gerchinsky at a conference in Tbilisi, reports “Present Time”.

This happened after the Georgian authorities adopted the Law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence”, despite large-scale protests in the country.

According to Gerchinsky, the EU has also frozen the allocation of 30 million euros to the Georgian government for 2024. “And this is only the first step, there will be others. Assistance to the government of Georgia will be reduced, and we will try to shift this direct assistance to civil society and the media,” Gerchinsky said. “In the case of Georgia, it is still unclear whether it will become part of the next big wave of EU enlargement. I sincerely hope that this will be the case, and after the October elections we will resume our work and be able to ensure that Georgia becomes part of the further enlargement of the EU,” the EU Ambassador to Georgia said.
