This year’s Lukšienė prize winner is a geography teacher from Panevėžys

“I thank my school, which proposed my candidacy. I believe that there are countless diamonds and pearls in Lithuania, we just need to find them,” said L. Urbonienė.

This year, the selection committee chose among 12 applicants for M. Lukšienė bonus.

“The selection of the candidate this year was one of the most difficult, which means that all of you who participated are equal,” said the head of the selection commission, the Deputy Minister, when announcing the winner. Ramūnas Skaudius.

The award to L. Urboniene will be presented together with the Teacher of the Year awards to mark International Teachers’ Day, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports (ШМСМ) in a press release.

According to the ministry, L. Urbonienė uses digital content during lessons, includes practical elements and self-directed learning in the educational process. It also organizes brainstorming sessions, actively participates in citizenship-strengthening events, volunteer campaigns, contributes to the implementation of international Erasmus+ projects, and represents the school in foreign countries.

From 2019 the teacher carries out non-formal education activities involving children with emotional and communication problems. Together with her colleagues, she has prepared a camp program for gifted students. In addition, she is a member of the Lithuanian Scouting Organization, gathers 5-8th grade students for the activities of the scout group.

ČMSM 2010 the established M. Lukšienė prize is awarded for the successful start of pedagogical activities, the implementation and dissemination of the ideas of democracy, humanity, and creativity.

The prize winner undertakes to continue and develop M. Lukšienė’s ideas.

Nominations for the award can be submitted by the candidate himself, heads of educational institutions, institutions implementing the rights and duties of the owner of educational institutions, school owners, teachers, students, parents and their organizations, non-governmental organizations, educational associations, the ministry and its subordinate institutions.

The amount of the bonus is 120 basic social benefits.
