Tripartite meeting between Azerbaijan and Armenia concludes in Washington

On July 10, a significant tripartite meeting between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia concluded in Washington, with the participation of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Azerbaijan and Armenia acknowledged the progress made towards establishing a historic peace agreement and interstate relations. Both nations agreed to continue working towards this goal and expressed their gratitude to Secretary Blinken for hosting the meeting.
The meeting coincided with the NATO75 Summit, where Secretary Blinken highlighted that Azerbaijan and Armenia are close to reaching a final agreement. He emphasized the importance of this agreement, describing it as a “lasting, honorable, and extraordinary opportunity” for both countries, the region, and their relations with the United States.
Secretary Blinken also noted the support provided by the United States, the European Union, and other European partners throughout the negotiation process. He expressed optimism about the proximity to a final agreement and reiterated the US commitment to supporting both countries in their peace efforts.
Azerbaijan has been cooperating with NATO since 1994, focusing on military cooperation, modernization, political consultations on security issues, and peacekeeping operations. Following the conflict in Karabakh in 2020, Azerbaijan regained control over most of the contested territories, and by 2023, it took full control through military operations.
Peace negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia continue, with mediation efforts from the United States, the European Union, and Russia.
