Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has caused a marked increase in defense spending in many European countries. According to the data of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the Baltic countries increased defense spending the most. The amount allocated by Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia amounts to 1.8 billion. euros. This reaction of the Baltic states is easy to explain: these states share a border with warring Russia and its vassal Belarus. In addition, it experienced the aggression and occupation of the Soviet Union relatively not so long ago.
