Farewell Ceremony Held for Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh at Tehran University

A solemn farewell ceremony was conducted today at Tehran University for Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas political bureau, and his bodyguard, Wasim Abu Shaban. Both men died in a rocket attack on the morning of August 31.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, led a prayer service attended by a large crowd. The ceremony included the janaza namaz, or funeral prayer, performed by Khamenei, followed by a national farewell tribute to the deceased.

In response to Haniyeh’s death, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf vowed retaliation. He condemned the attack as a crime that would be addressed “at the appropriate time and place.” Ghalibaf expressed condolences to the global Islamic community and freedom advocates, asserting that such attacks would not deter Iran’s movement. He denounced the Israeli regime, stating that the attack reflected its weakness and warning that it would face severe consequences for any future aggression against Iranian territory.
