Another journalist has been detained in the criminal case related to “AbzasMedia.” Journalist Elnare Gasimova, who was called to the Baku City Main Police Department on January 13 as a witness in this case, has been detained as a suspect.

Like the five journalists already detained in the “AbzasMedia” case, she is also charged under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (smuggling committed by a group of persons in a prior agreement).

Her lawyer, Behruz Bayramov, told Meydan TV that Elnare Gasimova does not consider herself guilty at all.

“She said she expected to be arrested. She believes that this arrest is related to her journalistic activities. She thinks the smuggling charge is baseless and absurd, and that this article is simply being used as an excuse to arrest journalists.
