Two former Nakhchivan ministers arrested

Ahmad Ahmadov, 69, served as Interior Minister of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from 2000 to 2017. Before becoming a minister, he worked as the head of the Department for Combating Organized Crime in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Autonomous Republic in 1997-2000.

Three years ago, Ahmad Ahmadov’s brother, Avaz Ahmadov, was also arrested on charges of beating a man who gave him money on interest and holding him hostage to demand the return of the money.

During his tenure as minister, Ahmadov was also accused of torturing citizens. Reports of torture by law enforcement agencies in Azerbaijan are officially refuted.
