This is a security alliance. This means that the organization must ensure the security of all its members equally and fairly.
During his visit to Washington, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that he would hold talks with representatives of Sweden, Finland and Turkey in the coming days.
However, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said this week that he did not see any point in holding such a meeting until concrete answers were received from Stockholm and Helsinki.
