In July of this year, ethnic Serbs in the north of Kosovo blocked the roads to Yarinje and Bernjak, the two border crossings connecting Kosovo and Serbia, with trucks and other vehicles.

The Serbs attributed this to Kosovo’s decision not to recognize Serbian license plates, which added to the tension.

Serbia does not recognize the independence of Kosovo and considers the republic to be its own region. The agreement concluded between Belgrade and Pristina at the insistence of the Serbian side states that the recognition of documents does not mean recognition of independence in any form.
