Rahimova, who was brought to the defense by Kekalov’s family, explained her rights, which allow the activist to have several lawyers. However, Kekalov repeated his refusal. At the same time, he noted that he did not commit a crime.
Although Rahimova asked the investigator to allow her to talk to Kekalov alone, she was refused.
In turn, appointed lawyer Sanan Asadov confirmed to Turan’s reporter that Kekalov does not accept the accusations brought against him.
Lawyer Asadov said that on the evening of November 23, the Khatai District Court ordered Kekalov to be detained for 3 months and 27 days.
Kekalov was detained on November 20, and since then only his lawyer Rahimova, who was attracted by the activist’s family, was able to meet him today.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said that Kekalov was detained in the case of Abzas Media executives Ulvi Hasanli and Sevinj Vagifgiz. All three are charged with smuggling. Hasanli and Vagifgizi denied the accusations and said that they were persecuted because of their journalistic investigations.
