The Court of Appeal kept Hafiz Babali in prison
Baku/20.12.23/Turan: Today, the Baku Court of Appeal (BAM) chaired by Hasan Ahmadov rejected the appeal against the arrest of investigative journalist Hafiz Babali.
Hafiz Babaly, the editor of Turan Agency’s economics department, was detained on December 13 on charges of “foreign currency smuggling”. He was involved in the case against Abzas Media journalists. On December 14, the Khatai District Court issued a decision to arrest Babayev for 3 months.
The defense requested the cancellation of the decision on Babali’s initial arrest, as the investigation did not provide enough evidence to keep the journalist in custody, said lawyer Rasul Jafarov.
However, the court did not satisfy the appeal.
The defense side is continuing the measures to change the restraining order and will file a motion to transfer Babali to house arrest. 06В
